Houston Young Lawyers Association

As a law student or newly graduated attorney, Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA) is a wonderful opportunity to network and give back. You can participate in meaningful community service projects, and you can volunteer with a local affiliate grant program or award program. The mission of HYLA is to lead, network, and serve. HYLA

HYLA – Houston young lawyers association has named Kelly Hanen to its board of directors. A trial associate in the firm’s Houston office, Hanen represents clients in a broad range of complex litigation matters, including commercial disputes, energy litigation, securities litigation, and personal injury and property damage claims. She will serve a one-year term on the board. The organization also has a variety of community service and leadership opportunities.

HYLA also provides numerous ways to give back to the community and network with fellow young attorneys. Members are encouraged to participate in community service projects that help improve the health and welfare of the Houston community. The nonprofit organization’s Board of Trustees is comprised of local attorneys, who organize events to raise money for its Grant Program. Fellows contribute both money and time to the organization. There are over thirty committees, so you can get involved in a variety of projects.

HALF

In 1992, the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation (HYLF) was established to support charitable programs in Harris County for the benefit of local young lawyers. By raising funds and volunteering their time, HYLF can provide essential services to the community. Its primary objective is to enhance the quality of legal aid, human welfare, and education. HYLF also supports the development of young lawyers as leaders through giving.

Through monthly CLEs, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, HYLA is a great organization for law students and young attorneys alike. The Houston Young Lawyers Association has more than 30 active committees and a leadership academy that selects 20 young lawyers each month to work on a project to benefit the community. HYLA also hosts signature events, such as networking happy hours and evenings with local leaders.

HYLA’s local affiliate grant program

HYLA’s local affiliate grant program funds community service projects in Houston and its surrounding area. Through their local affiliate program, HYLA provides funds for community service projects and recognition for an outstanding efforts. The organization is committed to supporting its affiliated young lawyer bar associations with local programs and awards. Members also have the opportunity to meet potential employers and clients through signature events like Evening with the Judiciary and networking happy hours.

HYLA’s awards of achievement program

The HYLA awards of achievement program (HAP) recognizes the outstanding efforts of members. This program recognizes members’ contributions to the pandemic, the local community, and the collective HAP membership. Each year, members can submit their best community service projects for evaluation. Awarded projects receive a special award to recognize the efforts of young lawyers. HYLF’s 5K run/walk

HYLF’s 5K run/ walk is an ideal race for individuals who do not feel comfortable attempting the full 10 miles and want to be rewarded for their efforts. The course is not timed, but participants receive the same amenities as the 10 milers, including an official race t-shirt. Runners in the 5K will be tallied based on net times, and the first male and female finishers will be recognized. To qualify for the 5K Run-Walk, participants must finish the race before 10:05 A.M.
