South Carolina Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the Year and Leadership in Law Honorees

John Gettys, the co-founder of Morton & Gettys law firm, has been named S.C. Lawyer of the Year for 2021 by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly. Gettys was recognized as one of 27 S.C. attorneys at the Leadership in a Law Awards ceremony on April 10 in Charleston. Although recipients of the Leadership awards were informed before the event, the Lawyer of the Year was not publicly announced until the very end.

Rob Tyson named Lawyer of the Year by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly

Robert E. Tyson, Jr., a Columbia, South Carolina attorney, practices in the areas of business litigation, administrative law, commercial litigation, and election law. He has appeared before the South Carolina Supreme Court and numerous local and state government entities. A frequent speaker and writer on these topics, Tyson has received several awards, including the Lawyer of the Year award. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Dispute Resolution Section Council and the Professional Liability Committee.

Tyson is also active in the community and has received the Glenn Jacobus Award from Leadership Columbia. He has also been named to the Honor Roll of the SC Bar Pro Bono Program and serves on the planning committee for the annual Medical Conference of the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association. He has served on boards for the Epworth Children’s Home and Kids’ Chance of South Carolina. The honor is especially well deserved.

Paul M. Lynch recognized as the “Go to Lawyer” for business law

Attorney Paul M. Lynch has earned national recognition as a “Go to a lawyer” in business law. In addition to his practice in business law, Mr. Lynch represents international clients. He is recognized for his work in M&A, project finance, and development. Other attorneys in the firm focus on energy and development, while Sean Shimamoto focuses on tax issues. These notable lawyers are ranked in the top tiers by Chambers USA.

During the past year, Gettys has accumulated numerous awards and honors from clients and colleagues, including the prestigious SC Lawyers Weekly Lawyer of the Year award. The firm was founded in April 2001 and has grown to include five attorneys and 12 support staff. The firm also has 12 paralegals and support staff. In addition to his recent award, Gettys has been named a Leadership in Law honoree for 2021. He was also named a 2015 Gold award recipient by the Charleston County Bar Association and has been named the firm’s 2014 Lawyer of the Year.

Mike Tighe named Real Estate Attorney of the Year by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly

Callison Tighe & Robinson PLLC is an independent full-service law firm with attorneys in the areas of real estate, litigation, commercial, and title insurance. The firm includes 45 team members, including attorneys, paralegals, and support staff. Mike Tighe has been named a South Carolina Lawyers Weekly “Rookie of the Year” in the category of “Legal Service” for 2018.

In 2011, he was named one of South Carolina’s Emerging Legal Leaders. Since 2013, he has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers. He also is a member of the Board of Directors of Kappa Alpha Order Rho Chapter Housing Corporation and the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina. He has also been named to the South Carolina Bar’s Star of the Quarter.

Tighe received his Juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2006 and was named Emerging Legal Leader by S.C. Lawyers Weekly Magazine in 2011. In 2012, he was elected to the S.C. Bar Association’s House of Delegates. In 2016, he received the Compleat Lawyer Award and was appointed to the Law School Alumni Board.
